Currently Reading.......

R.O.D. by Hideyuki Kurata

What's better than a manga series filled with book lovers?! The story revolves around three sisters who run a a detective company for books named Paper Sisters Detective Company. Their motto is "Protectors of books and all those who love books!" Michelle is the romantic sister and a bookworm, Maggie is quiet and completely shuts the world out when she is immersed in her reading, and Anita does not like to read. So far, Maggie is my favorite.

Here's a quote from Michelle, who spent their food money on books much to Anita's chagrin: "...But...but books are nutrients for the soul". I love it!

The Post-Birthday World by Lionel Shriver

This is my first venture with this author. Although I've heard much praise about We Need To Talk About Kevin, I haven't felt the urge to read it just yet. Not to say that I don't think it would be good.

From what I learned, the premise revolves around the "what if" scenario. Who hasn't wondered this? What if you made that fateful decision? What would your life be like now? The main character, Irina, makes that fateful decision, and thus the author provides us with two different scenarios for this one character. I think this will be an intriguing read.

You're the 2nd person who's mentioned R.O.D. recently. I'm going to have to check it out.

I've never read a manga book before, but this one sounds appealing!

I saw the Shriver book in the store the other day and did a double take because the cover art looks so much like the style of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I thought it might have been a sequel until I looked again. I wonder if they're by the same artist?

I've heard only good things about 'The Post-Birthday World' so I put it on hold at my library. Hope I can make time to read it when it comes in.

The other book sounds good, but I am intrigued by the what if book.

JCR - Thanks for the heads up. I did read the article. I wish I had the opportunity to meet her. I especially like the fact that she is so straight-forward.

Tanabata - I hope you enjoy it!

Lesley - You're right on about the cover. I have the Snow Flower book so I put them side by side......very similar. I couldn't find who did the cover art for the Shriver book. If I do, I'll let you know if both covers are by the same artist.

Kookiejar - I haven't read that far into it....uummmm, I'm actually only around 25 pages in. It's the sort of novel that requires your complete attention, so I really need to make time to read it. You might end up finishing it before me! I can't wait to learn your thoughts on it.

Nancy - You should definitely get it for your niece. I think she will really like it. BTW - they also fight crime with the books. It sounds weird, but it's very cute ;)
